What is Redbubble?

Redbubble is a well-known online marketplace for Print-On-Demand (POD) products.

Basically, Redbubble products are artworks of thousands of independent artists (any art form is appreciated – vector art, photography, canvas art, digital art, and many more).

When a customer makes a purchase, those arts are printed on products and shipped to the customer. Artists earn a commission out of it which is called artist margin (it can be increased or decreased by the artist). The default margin rate is 20%.

{PS – there are many Print-on-Demand websites that work like Redbubble such as TeePublic, Zazzle, Cafepress, Teespring, and many more but Redbubble as already said is the leading website with a lot of modification possibilities and gaining traffic.}

I would recommend you to create an account on these platforms too.

How does Redbubble work?

An artist can upload their unique art on products and add relevant tags to them. (wondering what are tags, well… keeping reading this topic will be covered soon)

The products are then up for sale. If any customer buys your product, then you will get a commission out of it (you can increase or decrease the commission amount) and the difference will be used by Redbubble for Manufacturing shipping and advertising. Yes, you read it correct Redbubble does advertise products. If your products are truly copyright-free (copyrights of redbubble will be covered soon), you will see many sales daily.

It is one of the best ways to earn online money with zero investment. You just have to upload your art/design. Add relevant title, tags, and description. Enable hidden products. Adjust design with correct dimensions. Set background color and then UPLOAD. Make your shop look attractive. Add collection and a featuring collection. Add a cool bio and social links. Share your product for publicity. And boom…. wait for the magic to happen.

You will get your difference on the 15th of every month but it might take (1-2) days in processing so some people receive money around 16-17 every month so if you haven’t got yours … don’t panic!

Step 1

Go to and signup. Enter your Email, Username, and Password and sign up.

( Choose an attractive username and recommend that you create a new mail id for Redbubble like your username, just to make it more professional ).

Step 2

Go to account -> sell your Art -> Add design.

Add 5 designs.

Step 3

Go to upload new work. (personally, I would suggest dimensions of the artwork should be 7000*7000 pixels). Select a design and then upload the design from your device make sure your file is in:

  • PNG form
  • Transparent background
  • Specific dimensions

Once done with uploading, now you have to fix the design on products see the picture below for more clarification

Step 4

Now add related title, tags, and description. You can add custom color and it will apply to all products.

Your Title should include the most important, most likely-to-be-searched-for words or phrases that describe your design. “(BTW – you don’t need to add ‘T-Shirt’ or anything in the title, as Redbubble will add that later)”.

Tags are short phrases and words that relate to your design. It helps your designs to get traffic hence more sale so, using relevant tags are the most important part in Redbubble.

Now how do we do that?

  • Never use irrelevant tags such as colors, or any tags that doesn’t make sense with your design.
  • Make sure to never use more than 20 tags (ps – the limit for the tag is 50 but adding that many tags will only mess up with the Redbubble traffic algorithm, hence less sale).

A website that will help you for getting tags- Merch Titan Redbubble Tag Generator enter a keyword and get the tags. Change it to copy format and then select limited tags and copy it.

(PS use 2-3 titles to get the best tags here for example if I’m uploading an art of triangle pattern so I will search tags by using titles such as triangle pattern, digital art, minimalistic life.)

{note – tags are the key to get sales make sure you take time in this process}

  • Your Description should again include your most important descriptive words and phrases – but most importantly it should describe and explain the design to potential customers.
  • Make your description short but informative.

Step 5

Go to 1st product standard print clothing and edit its size, color, pattern, and so on, and then go to Availability & Markup to enable all 12 products.

You can also change the pattern of your design by clicking on choose pattern.

You can even add different designs according to the product. I know it’s amazing XD.

Like for Hardcover Journals, I want to add something different so when you create your design just make some copies with some editing the same I did in this example. By clicking on Replace Image you can change the particular Image. (more details about design — )

You can even add custom background colors for a particular product.

Step 6

Just like that edit product the way you want. And at last, Complete these details and save work.

Select the type of art you have uploaded for my design I will go with illustration and digital art. (Btw it doesn’t matter)

Collections are groups of similar designs or designs that make sense together. As I’m just using this account to make you understand Redbubble so I don’t have any collection here. But if you have any kind of collection, make sure to add this design to the collection (ps it makes your storefront representable).

Default view in your shop

This figures out on which product your design will be shown up on your profile or storefront.

Did not get that?

Well see the clicks below for more understanding

(PS I think choosing recommended settings here will help you get more sales)

Who Can View This Work?

If you want public to see your design then go with public option else private.

Is this mature content?

Amazingly easy to understand but make sure to check Redbubble policies about what constitutes of mature content. Well mature content is allowed on Redbubble but is not publicly visible by default

Affirm your right

You must affirm your rights here so that you have the right to sell the product of this design. If you have created the product yourself you are good to go. Well, Redbubble is serious about copyright issues as a result they can take down your design or might suspend your account.

So now you know how to put designs up for sale but there is much more customization needed to do in your store to make it look professional and presentable.

(Zoom in if you can’t see it properly)

Step 7

This is how your products will display.

You can even share these products to gain more traffic.

Pro Tip: Using the #redbubbleartists hashtag or tagging @redbubbleartists when you share your work on Social Media can help you spot your latest designs.

Step 8

Now that you’ve uploaded one design. Similarly, upload 4 more designs. But doing the same thing again OMG that’s a lot of work… right? Well, don’t worry!!! Redbubble made that easy for you. You just have to copy the design and change the details and adjust the product.

Pro Tip – make the designs of the same dimensions and you don’t have to adjust every single product.

Similarly, change the details and adjust the adjustments and save work.

Step 9

Now Set-up the shop by adding Avatar, Cover Image, Social Links, and Bio that describes you.

Choose a profile picture and design a cover image for your storefront. [ dimensions of the cover image should be 2400 * 600 pixels ]

Add your personal information and bio.

Bio is just a brief about who you are and what kind of art you do. And make sure to enable bubblemail option.

So, you might be thinking what change can bio bring in your sale?? we’ll let me assure you a vast change!!

You can ask for custom orders in your bio. I have personally tried it and many people want custom orders just add a way to contact you there.

Make sure to mention bubblemail option in bio many people might be new to Redbubble and could feel not secure to contact you personally so bubblemail is your way to go.

And your bio should be very friendly but still professional.

It’s a mode of communication on Redbubble so people don’t have to give their personal details.

Make sure you enable the off-site marketing tool. YES, Redbubble advertise your product. Super amazing right?

Social Media

Adding social media links such as Pinterest or Instagram and many more will help customers to know more about you or it can be a way for them to communicate. You can even share your product on your social media platform to gain more traffic.

Personally, I think many customers don’t get what bubblemail is so they kind of want a straightforward way to communicate so I suggest you should add your professional Gmail in bio and add all the social media to Redbubble so that it would be easy for customers to contact you.

Step 10

Confirm Your Email, Add your name and address and your payment details.

( if you’re confused about the payment method don’t worry. It is totally safe. )

Payment Method

Payment options are quite easy and hustle-free in Redbubble you will receive your money every 15th of the month, sometimes it might take 1-2 in the transaction but you will surely receive your money as long as you have toughed 20$ benchmark in Redbubble account. (don’t worry if you haven’t made it to the 20$ benchmark that money will get collected in your Redbubble account and as soon as you make 20$ or more you will receive money on that month 15th.)

You can receive money by 2 methods from Redbubble

– PayPal

– Back account via BACS

I’ll add my payment method via PayPal. I personally think PayPal is the best among other methods. To set up your own PayPal account contact your bank or just simply make one through YouTube tutorials.

Warning: PayPal has strict guidelines. Make sure you fill in all details carefully or get help from an adult.

Pros and cons of Redbubble

  • Really a passive way to earn some money.
  • A way to put your art up in the world.
  • Really easy to manage without any hustle.

  • Extremely strict about their rules. rule break and your account is boom! So, make sure you read their copyright and rule articles before getting into it.
  • It might take some time to get the sale.
  • There is a recent rumor that they don’t allow the non-Eng country to make an account on Redbubble. They suspend it.

So, to conclude I would say Redbubble is a great platform to earn some extra cash… you should really for it but make sure you’re not breaking any infringement.
